12월 22일 국제 인권 시위에 보낸 대한민국 국회 김문수 의원의 성명서

서울로부터 충심으로 감사의 인사 말씀을 올립니다.

오늘 이 자리에 모이신 여러분께 감사한 마음, 진심으로 저의 속 내를 말씀 드립니다.

이렇게 추운 날씨에도 불구하고 여러분들은 오로지 북한주민들에 대한 연민으로 거리에 나서신 것입니다.

북한주민들은 지금 여러분들보다도 더 혹심한 추위와 겨울에 시달리고 있을 것입니다.

그러나 여러분께서 나누고자 하는 사랑과 열정은 북한주민들의 혹심한 추위도 녹일 것이고 저들의 지독한 고통의 凍土를 녹일 수 있다고 확신합니다.

지금 우리가 시위를 하는 이 순간에도 수많은 탈북자들은 어둠 속에서 자유를 갈구하고 기아에서 벗어나려고 필사적인 노력을 하고있습니다.

그러나 중국정부는 이들 북한난민들을 난민으로 인정하지 않고, 고통이 기다리는 북한 땅으로 강제송환하고 있습니다.

우리는 이런 중국정부에 대하여, 국제규약을 상기시키고 인도적 입장에서 우리 난민들을 강제북송 하지 말라고 목소리를 높혀야 합니다.

12월 9일, 중국대사관은 대한민국 국회의원 황우여 씨에게 전화하고 이번 시위에 참여한다면 "재미 없을 것"이라고 협박했습니다.

중국정부의 이런 만행은 간과할 수 없는 망동이며, 우리는 이 탈북자 강제북송 반대시위를 결행할 것입니다.

이번 시위를 주관하시는 여러분들, 특히 워싱턴에 모이신 분들깨 깊이 감사드립니다.

이곳 서울에서도 북한동포들의 인권에 관해서는 앞으로 계속 노력을 경주할 것이며, 여러분들의 지속적인 신념과 용기는 우리들에게 다시없는 힘과 영감이 될 것입니다.

마가레트 미드 여사는 이렇게 말했습니다. " 이 세상을 바꾸는 사람들은 신념으로 뭉친 소수 몇 사람들이다. 사실은 역사를 돌이켜보면, 이 사람들이 세상을 바꿔 놓았다."

저는 여러분들의 선념과 열정이, 언젠가는 이 세상을 바꾸리라고 확신해 마지 않습니다.

Statement for Wednesday rally by National Assembly member Kim Moon-soo



I send you warm greetings from Seoul.

It is with deep gratitude and honor that I speak to you today at this meaningful gathering.

On this cold winter day, you chose to come out to the streets, motivated only by your compassion and love for the North Korean people.

The North Koreans will probably be facing a much colder and harsh winter.

But your love and passion is big enough to melt away their cold and suffering and spread warmth to the impoverished and frozen land.

Even at this very minute, numerous North Korean refugees remain hidden away in the dark shadows, in search of freedom and a life without starvation.

But the Chinese government is refusing to acknowledge them as refugees and is continuing to repatriate them to North Korea, where they face harsh prosecution.

We must continue to raise our voices against the repatriations and urge China to handle the refugee issue in a humanitarian manner which does not violate international laws.

On Dec. 9, a Chinese Embassy official in Seoul called my dear colleague National Assemblyman Hwang Woo-yea, and threatened that “things will become difficult” if he chose to lead the protest.

This kind of behavior cannot be tolerated and we remain firm in our position against the repatriation of North Korean refugees.

I thank everyone from the U.S., especially those who gathered in DC, for putting valuable time and effort in today’s inspiring campaign.

We here in Seoul will remain committed in the movement to enhance human rights in North Korea and your unwavering support will sure to give us the strength and perseverance needed to accomplish this mission.

Margaret Mead once said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”

I firmly believe that your conviction and passion will someday make a difference.
