여러분은 이기고 있습니다 (수잔 숄티) 미국의 디펜스 포럼 대표 수잔 숄티 여사가 2월 28일 KCC(미주 한인교회 연합)의 서울 통곡기도회에서 한 연설문입니다. 일부만 번역했습니다. 연설 전문은 영문을 참조하시기 바랍니다. 감사합니다. 남신우 드림 이렇게 성령에 충만하고 축복받은 자리에서 제가 연설하게 된 것을 큰 영광으로 생각합니다. 북한주민들의 자유를 찾아주기 위하여 미국 전역에서 KCC (한국교회연합)가 사람들을 감동시킬 수 있게끔 역사하신 하나님의 뜻이 놀랍기만 합니다. 저는 여러분들께, 미주 로스 앤젤리스, 휴스턴, 수도 워싱턴에서 말씀드릴 기회가 있었습니다. 그리고 지금 이 서울에서 이제까지 제일 큰 기도회가 열렸는데, 이 자리에 제가 섰습니다. 유태민족이 부르짖었드시, 저도 오늘 부르짖습니다. “내년에는 평양에서!” 라고. 저는 여러분들이 북한주민들의 자유와 인권, 인간적 존엄을 위하여 떨치고 일어선 데에 대하여, 그리고 북한주민들을 괴롭히는 북한정권에 반대하여 간절히 기도하는 것에 대하여 감사드립니다. 저는 하나님이 여러분을 통하여, 지금 이 지구상에서 제일 악독한 정권과 투쟁하는 것, 그리고 여러분이 하시는 일이 북한에 있는 형제자매들을 구하기 위하여 싸우는 일에 제일 중요하다는 것을 잘 알고 있습니다. 여러분이, “북한의 자유”라는 말을 선언할 때, 여러분은 악의 세력, 북한주민들을 괴롭히는 주범들과 정면대결하는 것입니다. 우리들은 구약 성서에서, 우상을 섬기는 가짜 지도자들이 국민들에게 얼마나 끔찍한 참극을 불러 왔는가, 읽어 잘 알고 있습니다. 북한이 바로 이런 나라입니다. 그들은 성삼위일체를 악용하여, 김일성을 성부, 김정일을 성자, 그리고 주체사상을 성령으로 조작하여, 국민들로 하여금 이들을 섬기도록 강요해왔습니다. 이것은 하나님을 거스리는 짓입니다. 우리 하나님은 우리들에게 사랑과 용서와 구제를 주시는데, 북한정권은 파괴하고, 증오하고, 사람들을 굶기고, 노예로 만듭니다. 여러분들중에서, 북한정권을 비판했다는 이유로 혹독한 매도와 수난을 겪은 분들이 있다는 것을 제가 압니다. 미국에 계신 한 목회자가 북한주민들에 관한 진실을 말했다는 이유로, 침묵을 강요받고, 심지어는 교회에서 쫓겨나기까지 한 사실을 제가 알고 있습니다. 딴 곳이 아니라, 미국에서 말입니다! 그러니, 이곳 남한에 계신 목회자들과 지도자들, 특히 탈북자들은 북한에 관한 진실을 밝히기가 얼마나 어려운가, 짐작하고도 남습니다. 여러분들, 그런 분들을 위하여 기도해주십시오. 북한민주화동맹의 황장엽 선생, 북한민주화본부의 김태진 대표, 박상학 씨, 북한자유방송의 김성민 대표, 그리고 이 분들과 함께 일하는 모든 탈북자 동지들을 위하여 기도해주십시오. 요덕 스토리 뮤지컬을 기획하는 정성산 감독, 북한의 자유화 민주화를 준비하고 있는 허광일 대표, 미국에서 탈북자들을 대변하여 가장 효과적으로 열심히 일하고 있는 최동철 씨, 이순옥 여사, 이들을 위하여 기도해주십시오. 그분들 거의 모두가 독실한 신도들이고, 그들이 지금 성전을 하고 있다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 정성산 감독이 지난 주 저에게 메일을 보내왔습니다. 요덕 수용소의 참극을 폭로하자는 요덕 스토리 뮤지컬을 남한정부가 압박하고 방해한다고. “나는 내 목숨을 내걸었습니다.” 나는 하나님을 따를 것입니다. 나의 어머님과 아버님을 위하여. 북한에서 굶어죽고 살해 당한 영혼들을 위하여! 이 탈북자들은 이 싸움의 최전방에 서있습니다. 그들은 이곳에서 박해받을 뿐만이 아니라, 그들이 북한에 남기고 온 가족들의 안위를 걱정해야 합니다. 한 젊은 탈북여성이, 중국에 있는 탈북여성들이 얼마나 끔찍한 수난을 겪고있나, 용감하게 증언했습니다. 그러나 그 여성이 증언한 뒤, 그녀의 가족은 북한에서 어디론가 사라져 버렸습니다. 한 탈북자는 하나님을 믿지만, 예수님의 용서는 받아들일 수가 없다고 저에게 말했습니다. 자신은 사람들을 너무 많이 죽였다는 것입니다. 저는 그 분이 사람들을 그렇게 많이 죽였다는 말을 이해하지 못했습니다. 저는 그 분에게 우리 모두가 예수님의 용서를 받을 자격이 없다고 말했습니다. 그러나 십자가가 우리들이 용서받는 것을 가능하게 했다고 말했습니다. 하나님은 예수님의 죽음으로 우리를 용서하셨다고 말했습니다. 그리고 그 분은 정말 사람들을 죽인 것은 아니었습니다. 그 분은 자신이 북한에서 뛰쳐나온 후, 자신의 가족들과 친지들이 북한정권에 체포되어, 고문 당하고 투옥되고, 처형 당한 일을 말씀하신 것입니다. 그 분은 자신 때문에 많은 사람들이 죽었다는 죄의식을 갖고 있습니다. 김정일이 사람들을 죽였는데, 그 분은 자신이 그 사람들을 죽였다고, 하나님의 용서를 받아들일 수 없다고 믿는 것입니다. 지옥을 떨치고 도망나온 사람들을 김정일은 이런 식으로 계속 못살게 괴롭힙니다. 제가 말한 그 분에게 예수님이 나타나서 예수님을 영접할 수 있도록, 기도해주십시오. [중략] 그래서 4월 28일, 워싱턴에서는 신목사님, 이목사님과 더불어 12시간 계속해서 기도를 할 것입니다. 우리는 더 열심히 기도해야 합니다. 왜냐하면, 우리가 이 聖戰에서 이기고 있기 때문에 그만큼 저들의 발악도 더 그악해지고 있기 때문입니다. 제가 지난 10년 북한인권 일을 해오던 중, 지금 우리 정부는 북한주민들의 참상에 관하여 크게 변화하고 있습니다. 여러분들도 아시다싶이, 김정일은 핵무기 공갈위협으로 기막힌 지원과 양보를 받아내고 있습니다. 핵이 촛점이 되면 김정일이 이깁니다. 북한인권이 촛점이 되면, 북한주민들이 이깁니다. 부시 정부가 이전의 클린턴 정부 때처럼 북한과의 핵합의가 주목적이고, 북한인권은 다음 문제로 미루고 있지 않은가 해서 걱정입니다. 그러나, 다행스럽게도 KCC같은 여러분 단체들이 들고 일어나서, 북한주민들의 자유와 인권에 대한 의식을 높혔기 때문에, 우리는 이 싸움에서 이기고 있습니다. 그렇지만 북한정권은 죽음의 문턱에서 더 그악스럽게 하나님의 역사에 반항할테니까, 이 일은 더욱 어려워질 것입니다. 악의 세력이 발악할 때, 여러분들은 기뻐하고 더 힘을 내야 합니다. 마태복음 5장에, 너희들은 축복 받았으니, 하나님께 온 사람들은 핍박을 받기 때문이다란 말씀이 있습니다. 여러분들 때문에 하늘이 기뻐하고 있습니다. 저는 며칠 전 KCC 기도회를 생각하면서, 여호사밧의 전투가 떠올랐습니다. [중략] 그 전투는 하나님 사람들의 완승이었고, 하나님의 사람들을 압박하는 자들의 완패였습니다. 오늘 아침 그 성경구절을 읽으면서, 저는 중국, 남한, 북한 정권을 생각했습니다. 이들 세 정권은 북한주민들을 노예로 만들고 노예로 내버려 두기 위하여 상호 공조하고 있습니다. 중국, 남한, 북한의 악독한 위정자들은 서로 싸워 파멸할 것이고, 북한주민들은 자유를 찾을 것입니다. 그러면 제일 위대한 기적이 일어날 것입니다. 복음의 전도사들이 나설 것입니다. 남한이나 미국에서 나서는 전도사들이 아니고, 북한의 전도사들 말씀입니다. 그들은 우리를 축복해줄 것이고, 특히 그들을 버리지 않은 남한의 교회들을 축복해줄 것입니다. 왜냐하면, 지금 북한의 교인들은 우리가 상상할 수 없을 정도의 핍박을 받고 있기 때문입니다. 북한교인들의 순수한 믿음은 한국교회에 크나큰 축복이 될 것입니다. 힘을 내서 계속 싸우십시오. 여러분들은 이기고 있습니다. 기도들 많이 하시고, 탈북자 단체들을 지원해 주십시오. 하나님께서 여러분들의 기도를 들어주실 것이고, 여러분들의 기도로 북한주민들은 곧 자유를 찾을 것입니다. 하나님의 축복이 여러분과 함께 하시기를 빕니다. [끝] Remarks by Suzanne Scholte Korean American Church Coalitoin Prayer Vigil for North Korea Freedom February 28, 2006 It is my great honor to be able to speak before this Holy Spirit filled and blessed event. I am in awe of what God has accomplished through the Korean Church Coalition in energizing people across the United States to pray for the freedom of the North Korean people. I have been honored to have spoken before several of your prayer vigils in Los Angeles, Houston and Washington, D.C. And now, here the culmination of your prayer vigils, the largest ever, here in Seoul. As the Jewish people would say, Next Year in Pyongyang. I commend you for standing up for the Freedom, Human Rights and Dignity of the North Korean People and praying forcefully against the regime that reigns in North Korea. I know that God is working through you to confront one of the most evil regimes that exists in our world today and what you are doing is vital to the struggle for our brothers and sisters in North Korea. Just by declaring in the same sentence NORTH KOREA FREEDOM, you are directly attacking the evil, the principalities that reign in that country. We know from the Old Testament that Idolatrous leaders bring about unimaginable suffering on their people. North Korea is this classic example. Having twisted the Holy Trinity into a perversion of worship for Kim Il Sung as the father, Kim Jong il as the son, and the Juche ideology as the Holy Spirit, this regime is an affront to what God created. It is an affront to a God that we worship. Our God creates, loves, forgives and redeems. This is a regime that destroys, hates, starves and enslaves. I know that many of you have suffered severe criticism and hardship for speaking out against the North Korean regime. I know Korean Pastors in the United States who have been intimidated into silence and even forced out of their churches for standing up for the North Korean people by speaking TRUTH. And this is in the United States! I cannot imagine how bad it must be for pastors and leaders here in South Korean and especially for the North Korean defectors to speak truth about North Korea. I ask that you especially pray for the defectors who have faced such adversity but keep on fighting like Hwang Jang-yop, the honorary chairman of the Exile Committee for North Korean Democracy, Kim Jae-Tin and Park Sang-Hak who lead the Democracy Network against the North Korean Gulag, Kim Seung Min, the director of Free North Korea Radio, and all the defectors who work with him, Chung Sung-San, who is producing the musical about the Yoduk political prison camp; Huh Kwang-Il, who is drafting the plans for transforming North Korea in to a free and democratic nation, Choi Dong-Chul, the Washington Representative of the Exile Committee for North Korea Democracy, and Lee Soon-Ok who has been the most effective organizers in the United States in helping support the defectors work. Most of them are very strong believers and understand the Spiritual warfare they are facing. As Chung Sung-San wrote me last week when the Korean government tried to shut down his musical exposing Yoduk Prison camp, “I have put my life on the line. I will follow God. For my mother and father. For the souls starved and murdered to death in North Korea.” These defectors are in the front lines of this battle and not only do they face hostility here but the fear of what their action will do to their loved ones back in North Korea. One young woman was brave enough to testify about what was happening to North Korean women in China. After she testified she found out her family members back in North Korea had all disappeared. One defector told me he believed in God but he could not accept Jesus’ forgiveness because he had killed too many people. I did not understand what he meant that he had killed too many people. I tried to explain that none of us deserve Jesus forgiveness’ that is what the cross represents, God’s love for us that through Jesus death we have God’s forgiveness. I found out he did not kill any people – he was talking about his family and friends that were rounded up tortured, jailed, and executed because he had defected from North Korea. He carries with him the guilt that he killed them. Kim Jong-il killed them, but he cannot accept God’s forgiveness because he blames himself. This is the kind of evil and suffering that Kim Jong-il continues to cause for those who have escaped his hell on earth. Please Pray for this man that Jesus would come into his heart and reveal Himself. Last week at our North Korea Freedom Coalition meeting we discussed our many activities for North Korea Freedom Week in Washington DC this coming April. We hope that many of you, especially those of you in the United States, will be a part of these upcoming events. Among the activities planned are a rally on Capitol Hill on April 28, North Korea Freedom Day, and an all night prayer vigil that evening at the Embassy of China. We have been so blessed to have Pastor Dong Soo Shin of Virginia and Pastor Heemoon Lee of Maryland who are also in KCC to be our prayer warriors. In everything we have done they have blessed us and partnered with us. And I could not have made it through the past several North Korea Freedom Days if it had not been for them. Pastor Lee reminded us all at last week’s meeting: We must pray harder! So, on the evening of April 28 led by Pastor Shin and Pastor Lee, we will be praying continuously for 12 hours - it will be like a mini-KCC event! And we must pray harder because I believe the Spiritual battle is getting more severe because we are winning this battle. After nearly 10 years of working on this issue, I have seen an enormous change in my own government in working to respond to the North Korea human rights tragedy. As you know, Kim Jong-il brilliantly uses his nuclear threat to extract aid and concessions. As long as the emphasis is on the nuclear issue, he wins. Once it shifts to human rights, the North Korean people win. I have feared that just like the Clinton administration, the Bush administration would fall into this same trap putting all their hopes into a nuclear agreement and making human rights a secondary consideration. One of the questions I keep asking those who support an agreement with Kim Jong-il over the nuclear crisis is: If Kim Jong Il will not allow humanitarian aid to be monitored to ensure that it goes to the intended recipient, why do you think he is going to allow nuclear inspectors to monitor his nuclear weapons program if you make such an agreement? Fortunately, because of the growing awareness and calls from groups like KCC who have taken a stand for the freedom and human rights of the North Korean people, we are winning this battle. As a result, things will get worse because the North Korea regime is in its death throes and the lashing out against those who do God’s work will become intensified. But when you feel this lashing out. Rejoice and be encouraged. Remember Matthew 5: You are blessed because your commitment to God is provoking persecution. That means that Heaven is rejoicing because of you! I thought about KCC the other morning when I was reading about King Jehosophat who faced three kings and three armies. Overwhelmed by these powerful nations and armies coming to battle against the People of Judah, King Jehosphat took the following action: He gathered the people of Judah together and they committed themselves to God and trusted him for protection. Totally outnumbered by the forces of three combined armies, the kingdom of Judah trusted God for the victory. How did God respond? Those three armies coming to attack the People of Judah ended up attacking each other and completely destroying themselves. Not a single one of Jehosophat’s men even had to lift a spear, not a single one of his men even had to fight. God did all the fighting that day. It was a total victory and a total destruction of those who came against God’s people. When I read that story the other morning it reminded me of the Governments of China, South Korea, and North Korea who are today working together to keep the North Korean people enslaved. And it made me think of KCC and how KCC is like the faithful people of Judah who are turning to God and trusting him to win this battle. Those evil factions within the governments of China, South Korea and North Korea will destroy each other and the North Korea people will be free. And then the greatest miracle will occur. It will be the missionaries. Not the missionaries from South Korea or the United States. No, the missionaries from the North Korean church who will be the ones to bless us and especially the South Korean churches who never forsook them. Because the believers in North Korea are facing even more persecution than we can ever imagine. The purity of their faith will be a great blessing to the Korean Church. Keep up your battle. You are winning. Pray and please support the North Korean defectors organizations. Your Prayers will be answered and because of the power of your prayers North Korea will soon be free. God bless you.
